Privacy Policy

Moenhytta is a private family app. It is not open to the public. Access is restricted to a pre-approved list of family members and close friends associated with the Moenhytta cabin.

1. Who We Are

Moenhytta (“the App”, “we”, “us”) is a private digital cabin logbook for the Moenhytta cabin. The app is not operated as a commercial service. For questions about this policy, contact us at: privacy@moenhytta.no

2. Who Can Use the App

The app is invite-only. Your email address must be added to our approved list before you can create an account. The app is intended for adults and family members aged 13 and older. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13.

3. Information We Collect

We collect only the information necessary to operate the app:

Account information: your name and email address, provided when your account is created by an administrator.
Profile photo: an optional photo you choose to upload as your profile picture.
Content you create: cabin journal entries (Folk), animal sighting records (Dyr), photo gallery images, and any text, names, or notes you include in those posts.
Authentication data: a hashed password and short-lived session tokens (JWT) used to keep you logged in. Refresh tokens expire after 30 days.
Usage within the app: we do not use third-party analytics, advertising SDKs, or tracking libraries. No usage data is sent to external services.

4. How We Use Your Information

Your information is used solely to operate the app:

Authenticate you and keep your session secure.
Display your name and profile photo to other approved cabin members.
Store and serve the content you create (posts, photos, gallery collections).
Allow other members to find you by name when tagging people in folk entries.

We do not use your information for advertising, profiling, or any commercial purpose.

5. Who We Share Your Information With

Your information is visible only to other approved members of the Moenhytta cabin group. We do not sell, rent, or share your personal information with any third parties. We do not use external analytics, advertising networks, or data brokers.

The app is hosted on a private server. No personal data is transferred to cloud platforms outside our control.

6. Photos and Media

Photos you upload (profile photos, gallery images, post images) are stored on our private server and are accessible only to other approved app members. We do not process, analyze, or share your photos with any external service.

The app requests access to your device’s photo library only when you choose to upload a photo. This permission is used solely for that purpose.

7. Data Retention

Your data is retained for as long as your account is active or until you request deletion. When you delete a post, all associated media files are permanently removed from the server. When you change your profile photo, the previous photo is permanently deleted.

8. Your Rights

You have the right to:

Access the personal information we hold about you.
Correct your name, email, or profile photo at any time in the app.
Delete any content you have created (posts, photos, sightings).
Request full account deletion — contact us and we will permanently delete your account and all associated data within 30 days.
Data portability — request a copy of your data in a readable format.

9. Security

We take reasonable precautions to protect your data: passwords are hashed before storage, API access requires a valid JWT token, and the server is not publicly listed or discoverable. However, no system is completely secure, and we cannot guarantee absolute security.

10. Device Permissions

The app may request the following device permissions:

Photo Library (read): to let you select photos when adding a profile picture or uploading images to the gallery or a post. We access only the photos you explicitly select.
Camera (optional): if you choose to take a new photo directly within the app.

You can revoke these permissions at any time in your device settings.

11. Changes to This Policy

If we make material changes to this privacy policy, we will notify approved members via the app or by email before the change takes effect. The “Last updated” date at the top of this page reflects the most recent revision.
